The Beauty Therapy Level 3 Diploma students are offering, once a month, a number of treatments such as manicures, pedicures, massages and facials to all users of the hospice in an effort to support the local charity caring for over 2,500 people each year. It caters primarily for people with terminal illnesses and delivers compassionate care and support in their homes, the hospice itself and in hospital. It currently has over 500 volunteers and employs 200 members of staff.
Amanda Aichen, HR Administrator and member of the staff wellbeing group says: “This is an amazing service and such a wonderful thing that these lovely young students are doing. The staff here work so hard and it is lovely to see them treated to something so relaxing. We are all very grateful to the College for this. The students are professional, chatty, cheerful, and liven up the hospice with their charm.”
Fundraising Manager, Megan Boyley commented: “Once I have received my pedicure treatment, it’s like I’m walking on air for the rest of the day. I feel so calm and chilled when I return to my desk. This is a fabulous service and a great way of giving something to the local community. Well done to all the young ladies who attend.”
Student, Dana Kuzina is enjoying the experience and looks forward to her monthly visits to the hospice. She says: “For me the best part of being a beauty therapist is to experience the social side of the work. We get to sit and chat with our clients while we work and get to know them on so many different levels. The people who I have met here are the real heroes in life and they help to keep my faith in humanity. It is both a pleasure and an honour to give something back to them.”
