After much disruption to their learning during the pandemic, students have experienced a challenging two years. Yet through hard work and resilience, together with the dedication of staff, an encouraging set of maths and English results have been achieved.

Overall, students have done as well as or better than they did before the pandemic. This bucks the national trend, with more London South East Colleges students achieving 4-9 grades than they did in 2019.

More 16-18 year-old students have achieved grades 5-8 than they have previously too, which is testament to their commitment and resilience through a difficult period.

Most of those receiving results today, across the College’s Bromley, Bexley and Greenwich campuses, are learners of all ages who have returned to education after some time or school leavers who needed to re-take the exams after not achieving a Grade 4 or above at school.

Gaining a maths and/or English GCSE means they are now able to access higher level courses, continue their career progression and achieve their ambitions.

Executive Principal and Chief Learning Officer at London South East Colleges, Asfa Sohail, says: “Huge congratulations must be given to all our students who have worked so hard through such challenging times.

“The pandemic resulted in disrupted learning and difficult circumstances for some many people – but today’s achievements reflect the huge level of resilience and hard work that has been shown.

“These results also demonstrate the commitment of our staff over the last couple of years – relentlessly supporting students, be it online or in person, to ensure they completed their courses successfully and could progress to the next level.

“We are delighted for all our students and wish them every success in the future. Many are now progressing onto higher level courses with us, which will help them achieve the career success they deserve.”
