The data used relates to a small, discrete unit based within the College specifically set up to take a small number of 14-16-year-old students who, on arrival, had either been refusing to go to school, had been permanently excluded, or were at risk of permanent exclusion or who had transferred to the unit from a Pupil Referral Unit. The unit has, for three years now, taken pupils that schools no longer wished to teach - often for fear that it would affect their results, and has given these pupils the second chance they needed.
The unit is not a school and should not have been listed alongside other schools in published lists.
The team working with these students has in-fact been so successful that in 2017, 100% of the students progressed into employment or further education and training.
Results showed that the small cohort of students have excelled in recent exams. The outstanding results included:
- 99% of students achieved an English qualification
- 97% of students achieved a qualification in Maths
- 96 % achieved a qualification in Science
- 100% of students leaving the unit last Summer progressed to employment, further education or training
The unit achieved these results through a combination of hard work and focus by students combined with outstanding pastoral care and support and a personalised academic curriculum.
