From 12 July to 20 July, young ESOL learners accessed a welcoming and creative space and were given the opportunity to experiment with various tools and techniques to produce pieces of assemblage art.

Students focused on improving their language skills whilst exploring and developing their creativity. They were reminded of vocabulary associated with both the themes of the Painted Hall, in ORNC, and the art materials and skills being used at the time.

Kori Hutchinson, Project Facilitator, ORNC, said, "I particularly noticed the concentration exhibited while wrapping wire with Modroc plaster strips, along with the modest smiles as learners intermittently stood back to survey their work. Our Clore Learning Centre gained an atmosphere of industrious, calm intention as the young people focussed on choice and placement of objects."

Artist, John Adams, said: "The students were a pleasure to work with and certainly showed great enthusiasm for the work."

Some of the art pieces produced resulted in being quite 'collaborative', others reflected an individual's ideas and efforts. These will all be on display in the exhibition mezzanine at the Painted Hall and we’re hoping to be able to display them at Greenwich Campus later in the term.
